Maori adze

On April 4 Pam and Bill Sowerby kindly gave us an adze that they had found on the beach at Waitaria Bay. We think that the adze came from the Maori back long ago. They used it to scoop out the inside of the trees that they made their wakas out of. The edge of it is still very sharp. The outside of it is very smooth. The outside is so smooth we decided it would have taken ages for someone to grind it. We are going to treasure the adze and we want to thank Pam and Bill so much for giving us the adze.
